Possible presentation for your congregation

One of our teams is presenting during their online worship service. Please feel free to use this for ideas to develop something like this for your own congregation! Please feel free to use, modify, or just give you ideas!

During the pandemic, it’s understandable if you feel helpless in the face of the many challenges in our world.  So many of us are taking every precaution we can to keep ourselves and loved ones safe in the face of this terrifying virus.  We watch from the safety of our homes as people are truly suffering, losing income, and finding themselves food insecure.  There are so many ways that we can take action to make a difference.  One of those ways is supporting the Boulder County CROP Walk, whether you walk, donate, or solicit donations.  Your donation will help people here in Boulder County, in the United States, and across the world wherever the need is greatest.  Taking action is one way to push back the fear and anxiety and truly help those in need.

This action is an important way that we can step into the mission here in our congregation. Join our team at crophungerwalk.org/boulderco/ set a goal, contact your friends and family to support you, and then since there is no main walk this year you can walk whenever you want with family, or folks you feel safe spending time with. You can actually participate in the walk however you want- some folks are walking, others are running, still, others are getting out the rocking chairs and doing a CROP ROCK!

However, you join us- we are grateful for your prayerful support of this important effort.

Updates- where does the money go?

Community Food Share continues to disperse 1 million pounds of food each month! They will receive 24% of the funds this year’s Boulder CROP walk raises.

Bread for the World receives 1% of the funds. It is a grassroots organization that works to pass legislation that supports those in need. Members write letters, call, or even visit their congress folks to help them pass legislation like increasing funding and benefits for those receiving SNAP in the age of COVID. (Supplementary Nutrition Access Program, which used to be food stamps)

Finally, 75% of our funding goes to the international organization Church World Service which right now is preparing to help with disaster relief for both the terrible forest fires and Hurricane Sally. For disasters, they provide clean up kits, blankets, and long term recovery support, as well as globally working with hunger-related projects like sustainable water sources and more.

Sue Ericson reported that previous Boulder CROP WALK T-shirts are currently being sewn into grocery bags to be filled with food and distributed by folks at the Round Pantry in Longmont Colorado. Nancy Hurianek reports that the filled bags will hold groceries for as many as 700-800 families who visit EVERY 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month.

The need is great! Thanks for your help in all these projects!

Where: First Congregational Church, 1128 Pine Street, Boulder CO 80302
About 45 minutes, we hope

Parking:

Our hostess, Denise Cone says  Parking can sometimes be a challenge, so attendees are invited to park in our church lot which is west of the two buildings off the alley between Pine and Spruce Streets. We’ll be meeting in the  Chapel in the Faith Cente

The main entrance is on the north, Pine Street side, and the upper south entrance off the alley will be open if people park in the city lot on Spruce just south of the church.  Doors will be unlocked after 6:30-7:30 ish for the meeting. If you arrive and the doors are locked, you can contact Phil’s Cell 303-717-0077.

Other Questions- feel free to contact us if you need anything

Dennis and I once again want to thank YOU for your important impact on recruiting folks from your churches, synagogues, and organizations that wish to join us in this effort to combat hunger!

PS- We’ve had some email challenges so if you could be so kind as to give us updates (see below) – thank you

  1. Will you be able to continue to be the recruiter for your faith community for 2017?
  2. Do you have any changes to your contact information?
  3. Or, if you are not returning as a recruiter but have found someone else to serve, can you please send us that person’s name and contact information?

THANK YOU for again your past and current involvement in the CROP Hunger Walk.  We look forward to working with you in the weeks and months ahead!
